As with most of Nietzsche's works, the ‘medical’ procedure of diagnosis of disease followed by prescription of a cure provides the overall shape of Beyond Good and Evil (). Its motivating force, that is to say, is once again cultural criticism. This reading group which will involve reading Beyond Good and Evil in conjuction with 2 secondary sources which advocate an “esoteric” reading of the book – Lampert’s Nietszche’s Task and Clark and Dudrick’s The Soul of Nietzsche’s Beyond Good and Evil.

Beyond Good and Evil: Prelude to a Philosophy of the Future (German: Jenseits von Gut und B se: Vorspiel einer Philosophie der Zukunft) is a book by the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, first published in It takes up and expands on the ideas of his previous work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra, but approached from a more critical, polemical direction.   First and foremost; congratulations on deciding to give Nietzsche a try, he is not an easy philosopher to read and even harder to understand (in truth, I’m still never sure I’m picking up what he’s putting down despite reading several of his books.
